With President Obama’s decision to seek congressional approval for a strike on Syria following its use of chemical weapons splitting the left, we ask how would Secretary Clinton vote if she were still in the Senate?
Senator Clinton justified her 2002 vote for the Use of Force Resolution against Iraq by invoking Saddam Hussein’s chemical weapons programs and previous history with such weapons. Of course, it is intelligence showing that Assad has used chemical weapons motivating the Obama Administration’s current push for action.
And in 1998, President Clinton explained his authorization of military action against Iraq by declaring “Saddam Hussein must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons.”
Given these past positions, her role as Secretary of State, and possible aspirations, @HillaryClinton has been noticeably silent on this important question facing President Obama and Congress.
