Four Times This Alaska Democrat Stood Up For The EPA

Kevin-Spacey-Are-You-Kidding-Me

The Obama EPA announced today that it will impose restrictions on Pebble Mine, a potential mining project in Alaska. Obama’s EPA is essentially pre-emptively vetoing the mine before it has even submitted its proposal.

Contrary to Begich’s rhetoric that he is a “thorn” in Obama’s side and in this case, stands up to the EPA, here are four times that Begich has stood up for Obama and the EPA.

Alaska Dem Just Wants Everyone To Like Him

Alaska Dem Claims To Be Obama “Thorn,” Votes With Him 97% Of The Time

Nobody’s buying what Alaska Democrat Mark Begich is selling. Faced with a tough reelection fight, Begich is telling anyone who will listen that he’s “a thorn” in President Obama’s, uh, behind.

Sure.

This is coming from the guy who has voted 97 percent of the time with Obama. Needless to say, nobody is buying it. The Washington Post describes Begich as “not actually that well known for anything,” and:

In the Senate, Begich is a junior figure, moving through the chamber’s power structure at the speed of a mastodon trapped in a glacier. Over five years, just one of his bills has been passed into law. It renamed a courthouse in Anchorage.

And this morning, the Washington Examiner pointed out Begich has never had a vote on one of his amendments, bolstering the argument that he has not been the thorn he claims to be and, worse, has been an ineffective lawmaker for Alaska.

On MSNBC, Ron Fournier knocked Begich’s approach as “ham-handed”:

Mark Begich’s Goose Egg

How do you know if you’re an ineffective Senator for your state? Ask Mark Begich.

Oh sure, Begich rolls out TV ads that tout how he’s getting things done for Alaska, but as Alaska Rep. Don Youngpointed out recently, Begich is taking credit for other people’s work.

This morning, The Hill reported that Begich, who was elected in 2008, has “never received a roll-call vote on an amendment he’s offered on the Senate floor.”

For those of you keeping score at home, that’s the same number of roll-call votes that Kermit the Frog and Donald Duck have in the U.S. Senate.

Alaskan Congressman Don Young Has A Problem With Mark Begich’s Dishonesty

Alaska’s at-large member in the U.S. House of Representatives Don Young had some choice words for Mark Begich taking credit for things that he may not have done. Young’s comments about Begich’s propensity to embellish and self-promote warrants closer scrutiny of what Begich says to the public.

Case in point, here’s Begich’s letter printed today in the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner in which he claimed that he tried to “save” the Flint Hills refinery. Like a good politician, Begich made sure to steer clear of any responsibility and unloaded any blame of the pending plant closure on state government. Then, Begich proclaimed that he took critical action to keep the refinery open by doing what he always does when there’s a problem – he wrote a letter about it.

Begich omitted some important details, including his own double talk. Begich didn’t mention that on February 4, three days before his so-called “actions” cited in his letter, he told KTUU it was a “private sector decision” to close the refinery. Begich also left out how he blame-tweeted the refinery’s closure on its owners.

Bottom line, Begich claimed credit for taking action, dumped responsibility on state government, and politicized the closure for his own personal gain. Begich will say whatever suits him at the most opportune moment, just like a true Washington, D.C politician.
