One Year Later: Clinton’s Hard Choices Still Not Made

A year ago today, Hillary Clinton released her memoir Hard Choices. The day of the book’s release, Time declared: “Hillary Clinton avoids hard choices in Hard Choices.” Despite claiming in October 2014 that “it should be disqualifying” for a candidate to not answer questions, here are the hard choices Clinton still refuses to make:

  • Clinton has walked back her past support for the Trans Pacific Partnership and is now “watching closely”
  • Clinton gave only cautious support to the Iran deal whileflip-flopping on Iranian nuclear enrichment
  • Clinton has continued to avoid taking a position on theKeystone XL pipeline while her foundation continue to accept money from its biggest supporter
  • Clinton has decided not to talk about her foreign policyrecord
  • Clinton has been criticized for not taking a position onbreaking up the Wall Street banks
  • Clinton still has yet to take a position on the medical devicetax
  • Clinton has avoided taking questions from the press

Clinton Promised Blackwater Crackdown, Gave Them Over $500 Million Instead

Hillary Rodham Clinton Signs And Discusses "Hard Choices"

Today The Huffington Post reported that the State Department gave Blackwater over $1 billion since a 2007 incident that involved Blackwater’s top official in Iraq making death threats against a U.S. government investigator reviewing the company. Blackwater has a controversial history which led then-Senator Hillary Clinton to vow to crackdown on the company. In 2008 Clinton cosponsored legislation to “ban the use of Blackwater and other private mercenary firms in Iraq.” Later in 2008 she also issued a press release that “blasted” the State Department, then under President Bush, for renewing its contract with Blackwater.

However, according to The Huffington Post, “ More than half a billion dollars was set aside for the firm [Blackwater] and its subsidiaries by the State Department under then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

$500 mil + in taxpayer money is quite the “crackdown.” Just think much government $$$ Clinton will give to the long list of special interests the Clinton’s are on the take from. Hard to imagine this is a person who would stand up to those special interests in the White House.

5 Burning Questions About Hillary Clinton’s University Paydays and the Clinton Foundation

Last week Hillary Clinton was under fire for taking around $1.8 million in speaking fees from colleges – many of which were increasing tuition on students – since leaving the State Department.  Over the holiday weekend Clinton tried to clean-up the PR mess by saying that those fees had been donated to a charity – her own, the Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton Foundation.

Given the foundations track record of lavish spending this raises some questions about just how the Clinton Foundation charity cash has been spent since Hillary left the White House.

1. Is the Foundation paying for Clinton’s political staff or being used as a holding ground for future Clinton Presidential staff?

In 2013, The New York Times reported that “the foundation could serve as a base…to build up a stable of trusted staff members who could form the core of a political campaign.” Among those on the payroll at the time were a handful of Clinton 2008 presidential campaign staff including Huma Abedin and Dennis Cheng, the finance director of her 08 campaign leading what some Clinton donors describe as a “dry run” for the 2016 campaign at the Foundation.

Its hard to argue that lavish speaking fees are going to a charity when that charity is paying for presidential campaign prep.

2. Do the college speaking fees help underwrite the CGI meetings?

According to a Clinton Foundation press release in 2013, CGI was reincorporated into the Clinton Foundation when Secretary Clinton left the State Department. That adds substantial overhead cost to the foundation that can’t be described as “charitable.”

For example: In 2012 the total CGI budget was $28 million. Of that, $25 million was spent on their annual meetings. According to the 990 CGI spent over $1 million of that on “production” vendors including stage crews and technical production.

Not your typical charity expenditures.

3. Is the Foundation still footing the bill for the Clintons ostentatious travel?

A 2013 report by the New York Post found that the Clinton Foundation spent $60 million on travel from 2003-2012. When combined with their other initiatives that number ballooned past $85 million.

If the universities fees are being used so that the Clintons can fly around on private jets and stay in luxurious presidential suites, is that really a charitable contribution?

4. What about travel for celebrities?

Clinton Foundation events are often replete with celebrity star power. In one instance, Natalie Portman was given a first class ticket for her and her Yorkie to an event in Austin.

I’m sure the students paying a higher tuition next Spring would be happy to hear that the university cash went to pay for celebrity dog travel.

5. Is the Clinton Foundation still paying  Teneo a 7 figure consulting fee?

Founded by former top Clinton aides, Teneo has been a preferred consulting firm for the Clintons. Previous reports indicated that they made $250k per month from the Clinton Foundation, which is approximately what Hillary was making from each college speech.

This just scratches the surface of what we don’t know about the Clinton Foundation finances. As POLITICO reporter Ben White noted, until we do saying that she donated speaking fees to charity isn’t much of an answer.

Embattled Obamacare Chief Says Hillary Clinton Will “Step On The Gas” When It Comes To Implementing Law

Hillary Clinton Sebelius

Over the weekend, embattled former HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Hillary Clinton would “step on the gas” when it came to implementing Obamacare. While serving in the President’s Cabinet, Sebelius was in charge of implementing the Affordable Care Act – a colossal technological failure that wasted hundreds of millions of dollars. In addition, premiums for Americans around the country have skyrocketed and support for the law is at an all time low; an Associated Press-GfK poll found that only 28 percent of Americans support the law while 43 percent disapprove of it.

Hillary Clinton is, of course, famous for attempting to pass her own version of health care reform in the mid-1990s. Dubbed HillaryCare, Clinton’s plan served as the base for Obamacare and faced a similar criticism – Hillary did not consult Republicans or key stakeholder groups when crafting the policy. Clinton was also instrumental in getting the Obama Cabinet on board with Obamacare this time around.

Given that background, it will be hard for Clinton to convince voters that Secretary Sebelius’ assessment isn’t spot on.

Clinton’s Libya: “North Africa’s Most Active Militant Sanctuary”

The Los Angeles Times has a chilling piece on how following the U.S. intervention in Libya, the government has all but collapsed the country has “turned into the kind of place U.S. officials most fear: a lawless land that attracts terrorists, pumps out illegal arms and drugs and destabilizes its neighbors.”

Immediately after the NATO-backed intervention in 2010, Hillary Clinton, who was its most important proponent within the administration, crowed that “we set into motion a policy that was on the right side of history, on the right side of our values, on the right side of our strategic interests in the region,” and allies have cited her role as a key success.

The story below shows Clinton has been prematurely spiking the football, as Libya has devolved toward a failed state that harbors terrorists, destabilizes the region and undermines U.S. national security.

Clinton-Benghazi-G1-620x362

But in three years Libya has turned into the kind of place U.S. officials most fear: a lawless land that attracts terrorists, pumps out illegal arms and drugs and destabilizes its neighbors. …

Arms trafficking from Libya “is fueling conflict and insecurity — including terrorism — on several continents,” an expert panel reported to the United Nations Security Council in February. Weapons smuggled out of Libya have been used by insurgents in Mali, by Boko Haram terrorists in Nigeria and by Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip. …

Obama was initially reluctant to order the intervention, as were several top lieutenants, including former Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates. Gates didn’t want to thrust overstretched U.S. forces into a potentially long war over a fractured society, and at one point he threatened to quit over it, he recalled in his memoir, “Duty.” But the move was supported by Rice and then-Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, who feared a looming humanitarian catastrophe. Clinton was the swing vote, Gates wrote. …

Last month, Clinton was asked at a Council on Foreign Relations event why the United States didn’t do more to mend Libya, since the U.S.-led military campaign had broken the old order.

“We did try,” she said. “That is a perfect case where people who’ve never had that opportunity to run anything, manage anything, even participate in meaningful politics, understandably are not even sure what questions to ask.”

Some observers are warning that the administration eventually may be forced to do more. A Rand Corp. report this spring predicted that if Libya’s problems continue to worsen, another NATO intervention might be required. …

Bill Clinton Attacks Iraq War Supporters…Like His Wife, And Himself

How quickly they forget.

In video released today by NBC News from David Gregory’s interview of Bill Clinton, the former President attacked Iraq war supporters such as Vice President Cheney for the current crisis in the country.

Of course as a Senator, Hillary Clinton was famously a proponent of the war, voting for the 2002 use of force resolution, saying it was “in the best interests of our nation.”

And in 2003, on the eve of the invasion, Bill Clinton was briefed on Iraq War planning and told the Bush White House he supported the invasion. In fact in a 2004interview with Time Magazine, Bill Clinton said has “repeatedly defended President Bush against the left on Iraq” and “supported the Iraq thing.”

“Not Out Of Touch?” Bill Clinton Laughs About Buying 14 $550 Watches, Giving Them Away

They just can’t help themselves. One day after defending Hillary Clinton as “not out of touch” after she said her family was “dead broke” after leaving the White House and currently are unlike the “truly well off” because of their tax payments, Bill Clinton laughed about buying over a dozen watches at a Detroit watchmaker last month, saying he gives them away.

Last month, Crain’s Detroit profiled Bill Clinton’s trip to Detroit watchmaker Shinola, where Clinton bought nine of them which retail at $550.

Bill Clinton is a fan of Shinola watches.

The 42nd president and founder of the Clinton Foundation owned two of the timepieces before being presented with a third today while touring Shinola’s Detroit headquarters and factory inside the College of Creative Studies’ Alfred A. Taubman Building.

So what does a stylish past president wear?

The 47mm Runwell, which retails for $550.

Jon Ralston Calls Hillary’s $225K Speaking Fee “Obscene, Grotesque, Revolting”

Long-time Nevada political journalist Jon Ralston weighed in on Hillary Clinton’s $225,000 speaking fee from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas (UNLV). Calling the fee “obscene, grotesque [and] revolting,” Ralston asks, “does anyone out there think it’s worth paying Clinton almost a quarter-mil to hear her speak?”

Ralston argues that Clinton should donate her speaking fee back to the University’s foundation so the money can actually be used to help students. As The Weekly Standardreports, UNLV students are currently outraged that their University “is raising tuition by a staggering 17 percent.”

Clinton’s decision to keep her $225,000 speaking fee comes as potential 2016 Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren flies around the country talking about student loan debt.
