Hillary Clinton Staffer: Clinton The Public Face Of U.S. Libya Effort

Based on the Benghazi e-mails released today by the New York Times, a top foreign policy adviser called Hillary Clinton “the public face of the U.S. effort in Libya” and said Clinton had the “leadership/ownership/stewardship of this country’s Libya policy”. Despite being heavily engaged in the process to end Gaddafi’s rule in Libya, Clinton ultimately failed to execute a strategy for a post-Gaddafi Libya. One democratic Congresswoman, Tulsi Gabbard, said Clinton and Obama had “no after plan, there was no plan on what happens next” in Libya.

Clinton Says She Was Not Personally Responsible For Benghazi Security, The Law Says Otherwise

hilary clinton 27f9pic

A terrorist attack on a U.S. diplomatic facility resulted in the deaths of multiple Americans. Before the attack, an Ambassador’s requests for more security  were denied. The year was 1998.

In a The Wall Street Journal op-ed, Victoria Toensing says that after the 1998 terrorist attacks on U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania the United States government took measures to ensure it wouldn’t happen again. After the attacks, an Accountability Review Board was formed in 1999. It recommended, “[f]irst and foremost, the Secretary … should take a personal and active role in carrying out the responsibility of ensuring the security of U.S. diplomatic personnel abroad” and “should personally review the security situation of embassy chanceries and other official premises.”

Despite this warning that the Secretary of State should take an active role in security, Clinton has maintained security was not her responsibility. Toensing writes that,  “In her interview with ABC’s Diane Sawyer last week,  Hillary Clinton said ‘I was not making security decisions’ about Benghazi, claiming ‘it would be a mistake’ for ‘a secretary of state’ to ‘go through all 270 posts’ and ‘decide what should be done.’” In her book she said she shouldn’t have seen these requests.

Well not only should she have, she was required to by law.

As the attacks in Benghazi demonstrate, despite being in the White House at the time of the 1998 attacks it seems Hillary Clinton didn’t learn any lessons from the deaths of the State Department employees in Kenya and Tanzania.

Clinton’s Real Record On Israel

Today, Hillary heaped praised on Israel and took a victory lap for her record on Israel in a speech at the American Jewish Committee’s Global Forum. But Hillary’s record at the State Department tells a different story.

Here are a few reasons why she might not have been as effective as she leads on:

1. As Secretary, Clinton only visited Israel twice herself and“spent little time” on peace negotiations.
2. Secretary Clinton and the State Department ignored Iran’s verbal attacks on Israel at the Human Rights Council to pursue negotiations with Iran.
3. Clinton harshly criticized the Israeli government over settlement construction in Israel repeatedly during her tenure.
4. Even at the yearly AIPAC conference in Washington, DC, Secretary Clinton took the opportunity to criticize settlement construction saying it “undermines” US-Israel relations.

Additionally, what Clinton took credit for today, negotiation of the 2012 cease-fire between Israel and Gaza, she previously  credited to then Egyptian President Muhammed Morsi.

GCL Properties made news earlier this month, when the Lexington Herald-Leader reported that it was one of two businesses owned by Lundergan that filed late with Alison Lundergan Grimes’ Secretary of State office.

Two businesses associated with Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes failed to meet the July 1 annual reporting deadline required by her state office.

Grimes organized both businesses and has an ownership interest in one of them, but her father, former state Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Lundergan, took the blame Tuesday for missing the filing deadline.

Lundergan is listed as the sole officer for both businesses - Glenncase and GCL Properties - in filings with the secretary of state’s office. Glenncase, in which Grimes has an ownership interest, involves 11-plus acres on New Circle Road.

Yesterday, Grimes’ office sent a press release notifying the 20% of businesses that missed the July 1st filing deadline to pay a fine and submit their annual reports in order to reclaim good standing with the Secretary of State’s office.
